"It was a brilliant and cunning plan."

Two conventions taking place at the same time in two different cities in two different areas of California. To the north, we have SacAnime. To the south, we have Anime LA. Both offer various features and hazards. Both offer a good time for its attendees. Both have my name listed as an attendee. Given that the human body cannot be in two places at the same time and I am not a dead cat, selecting one would be difficult. Heads or tails? Even or odds? Peanut butter or jelly?

I decided to attempt both conventions on the January 8th through 10th weekend to kick off 2010. I received some contract work in Sacramento, so after doing my job and getting my money, I could hit SacAnime like the independent press that I am. Even if it would be a slow opening Friday, I could get some juicy information for work or at least an anecdote to write. I made a hasty arrangement to spend the night in one hotel room to ensure enough rest and hygiene.

Then come Saturday morning, I would fly down to LA via the Sacramento airport and spend between 24-36 hours immersing myself in the southern California convention. Saturday would be the most fulfilling day as most of the attendees and events would be present. Logistically, I would not have a room to sleep, shower, or change but I enjoy a good challenge. Besides, it would make for an excellent litmus test to determine my true friends who would help a fellow friend in need.

Come Sunday, I would return to SacAnime a haggard and possibly coked up attendee who would make one last hurrah through the small convention. The theory looked great on paper. but so do a lot of things like the monogrammed initials on cocktail napkins before I realize I am going to blow my nose on them. Come to think of it, I believe I wrote this idea on a cocktail napkin after about five martinis and a shot of bourbon during a Christmas party.

The fact this is filed under "SacAnime 2010" will imply how well the plan went.
