Masquerade: Walk-Ons & sketches & monkeys, oh my!

The highlight of cosplay for Saturday night is the Masquerade where cosplayers show off their costumes and acting skills through walk-ons and sketches. While Tom was roped into performing at Masquerade to take the role as an actor, Ten took the role as shooter. My seat as a Masquerade participant gave me a beautiful view of the speaker. Acts ranged from fighting to comedy to dramatic. Hosted by BART Boy and Imari, the two MCs and their aides did their best to keep the show moving and performed little sketches of their own to entertain the audience while the backstage crew repaired the hiccups.

The Tech Gods were angry at this Sac-Anime, resulting in delays, forced changes in cosplayers' sketches, removal of some entries, and even one act getting canceled while they were on the stage. Some acts improvised when their audio was corrupted. Some cosplayers got extremely nervous until they got their sketch over with and performed wonderfully.

Then there was my contribution to the Yu Yu Hakusho sketch with One Shot Cosplay for the final sketch. I was tapped to play Koto for a bit par because I happened to fit into the costume. Never mind that Koto is a female character and I am a male. Being the method actor that I am, I wanted to take the challenge. I had no trouble with the pink shorts, girly sailor fuku top, or the bra supporting my prop breasts. The wig was my biggest annoyance due to my aversion to headwear. While I might be able to pick up female mannerisms and Koto's characteristics, my male mug prevents successful crossplay. But it was a fun little venture in the name of Traveling Valentine. Perhaps Michael will make a better crossplayer in the future.
