Once upon a time, there
was a convention called Anime Overdose or Anime OD.
But after noticing that I was on the attendee list along
with my tendency to lose myself in reality, they quickly
reorganized and renamed themselves Animation
on Display to make sure I do not use the convention's
name as an excuse to drive through a jungle trail lined
with Playboy bunnies on my way to rendezvous
with Captain Kirk so we could fight the Klingons hiding
in Kinokiniya. I usually save that trip for Christmas.
But no matter how you
write it out, it is still AOD. And AOD has always been
the little convention where the guests are easy to meet
and the attendees are always out to have a good time.
Stationed at the Hotel Kabuki in the lovely San Francisco
Japan Town, Michael and I hit the convention for two
days to see what we could see. AOD also marked the first
time my three Little Sisters would finally meet each
other as such. Between juggling social relationships,
getting over my fear of public speaking, navigating
San Francisco, and trying to figure the meaning of "No
comment," maybe it was time for an overdose. I
do not know how long Captain Kirk can hold off those
Klingons.
